The name's picked up by Robert Chambers for The King in Yellow, (hence the Lake of Hali) and of course there's the infamous (but equally fictitious play whose mind-twisting nature went on to inform the bizarre feel of the Necronomicon. Khalid anglicises to Calid, or more tellingly Hali - hence Ambrose Bierce's short story 'An Inhabitant of Carcosa', in which Hali is a sage or prophet referred to in reverent terms. I think Moore's reasoning for Khalid being an inspiration for Alhazred, while not actually true, is still sound. Īlan Moore, when writing a story featuring quasi- or pseudohistorical 'prototypes' for bits of HPL's work in Providence, proposed Khalid ibn Yazid as a prototypical Alhazred.
